Meet Lisa

Oh good, you stuck around for more! Well, get comfy…let’s be great friends!

First, you should know what you’re getting into… I am super driven and equally as silly. I am extremely easily amused and I love to laugh. Not like a polite little “he he” but more like a whole-hearted Julia Roberts kind of laugh. If you let me I will ramble on and chase squirrels all over in conversation just to see if you can keep up with me….I am at Jones ya know!

I spent more time in college than most doctors…but I am not one! One reason I stayed so long is because I am a master “delayed decision maker,” mostly because I want to do everything! Our very merciful God, lots of life experiences, a little bit of wisdom, a realistic husband who keeps me grounded, and three energetic children have finally taught me that a heart full of a few great things is way better than a zillion good things any day! The other reason I stayed in college so long was because I am extremely passionate about learning. I am constantly learning and passionate about passing the things I’m learning on so I sure hope you keep coming back around to learn fresh perspective, laced with a little bit of silly! Oh, and just as much as I love learning and super nerdy stuff, I am a child at heart. And I could totally live on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and orange juice the rest of my life. Just say’n. Yes, random…I know…that’s kinda how I am. Just for the record…here is the official, more professional version:

Lisa is originally from Pennsylvania, spent most of her life moving around the world as a military brat, graduated from high-school in Japan, went to four different colleges in three states, lost everything material in Hurricane Katrina, then lived like a gypsy chasing storms for a few years doing catastrophe work with her husband and has finally settled down (for now) as a converted Southerner living on the Gulf Coast in South Mississippi. She has been married to her husband Jamey for 16 years. She is the mother of three extroverted, strong temperament children: Seryna, Skylar, and Ayden. Lisa and her husband, who also have strong extroverted personalities and have prayed for many years for God to insert into their immediate family someone of the analytical and organized temperament to help keep them all straight. However, He has yet to reply. In the meantime, they will keep blazing trails and having fun while they are doing it!

As far back as she can remember, Lisa has had a passion for words and loved to read, write and speak. Now, she gets to spend her days reading, writing, and speaking with her homeschool students and together they learn something new every day. Though no one ever accused her of being graceful, Lisa is grateful to be full of God’s grace. She attributes His grace to many things, including her ability to continue to train for half-marathons and triathlons. She is passionate about helping people to achieve their goals in health and wellness and has spent a lot of her time over the last two decades as a personal trainer, aerobics instructor and children’s swim instructor. Lisa is an outdoor enthusiast and would describe her perfect day as: somewhere in nature, doing something sporty, surrounded by lots of loved ones, with a book and journal in her backpack, so that when the right moment comes, she can sneak off to discover a serene place to read and write. Since she never meets a stranger, she would most likely want you to be there as well.

I did finally graduate from college with a B.S. degree in Exercise Physiology, a B.S. degree in Coaching, and a minor in Psychology. I finally landed on these credentials because many years ago, by God’s redeeming grace, I overcame a severe eating disorder that almost cost my life. Ever since then I wanted to speak into other people’s lives that are directly or indirectly affected by an eating disorder. In the pages of this blog, you will find parts of my overcoming story. My prayer is that you will find words of hope and encouragement that ultimately make you fall in love Jesus, the one who saved me, gave me a second chance at life, and continues to save me every day!

I can’t wait to be friends!
